Label defects are usually caused by a mismatch between the label construction, container surface, application conditions and later environment. The same label can behave differently on PET, HDPE, glass or a flexible pouch. Diagnose when the defect begins and reproduce the exact surface, temperature and application method.
Record exactly when and where the defect appears: immediately after application, after filling, during cooling, in storage or after transport. Compare passing and failing packs for surface condition, geometry, label construction, roll setup and applicator settings before changing the adhesive alone.
A label trial should reproduce the actual container surface, filling temperature, condensation, application method, storage and distribution exposure. A hand-applied label on a cleaned sample may not represent automatic production or normal moulded-pack variation.

An adhesive needs clean contact with the surface. Dust, oil, product residue, mould-release contamination, moisture or condensation can stop the adhesive wetting the container and create later lift. Some plastic surfaces also present a lower-energy bonding surface than others.
Label production-representative containers at the intended temperature and time after filling. Do not clean trial samples in a way that will not occur in normal production.
A stiff label resists bending around a tight radius or compound curve and can pull away at the edge. Panel movement after filling can create bubbles or wrinkles even when the empty bottle looked acceptable. Label size, grain or film orientation, facestock, laminate and adhesive all contribute.
Choose a label panel and construction that can follow the actual geometry. The adhesive compatibility guide should be used with physical samples.
Incorrect unwind direction, web tension, backing release, label pitch, roll telescoping, sensor contrast, peeling angle, wipe pressure or product spacing can create skew, bubbles and wrinkles. A label may be chemically suitable but mechanically unsuitable for the applicator setup.
Provide the labeller roll specification and a production-representative roll. Record successful settings against the exact label and container references.
Inspect initial position and wet-out, edge lift, bubbles, wrinkles, movement, scuffing, print or barcode legibility, moisture exposure, product contact and performance after temperature cycling or transport relevant to the application. Set inspection intervals before testing because some defects develop after hours or days.
Where the pack is recycled, keep the label material, adhesive and coverage in the complete-pack evidence file as well as the appearance approval.
