Colour can support product identification and brand presentation, but it must not distract from the closure's primary jobs: engaging the neck correctly, sealing the contents, providing the intended opening or dispensing function and applying consistently in production.

Fit and function checklist

End-of-life considerations

The closure can be a small component relative to the bottle. Recycle Now explains that some on-pack instructions advise consumers to rinse and replace small lids so they remain attached to the larger pack during sorting. It also notes that sleeves or other components may need removal. Use the current recycling-symbol guidance for the finished pack rather than applying a generic cap instruction.

Where colour, liner or tamper features change the closure construction, update the evidence and artwork review. A declaration for a natural, unlined closure should not be reused for a coloured, lined or functionally different cap without confirmation.

Samples, tests and quotation

Send the bottle and existing cap where possible, the full finish, contents, filling conditions, required feature, preferred colour, first-order quantity, annual forecast and delivery requirement. Agree cap engagement, application torque, removal torque, leak, band break and opening checks for the actual combination.

No. Thread profile, sealing land, bore, tamper bead and liner must match the bottle. Test the exact combination for engagement, torque and leakage.

Can colour affect a recycling assessment?

Colour and pigment are part of the closure specification. Include them in the evidence for the finished pack rather than assuming every colour performs identically in sorting or reprocessing.

Should small caps stay on the bottle for recycling?

Colour is one selection variable within a closure system. The cap must first match the complete neck finish and provide the required seal, liner, tamper evidence, opening and product-contact performance.

  • Bottle sample or neck drawing and complete finish designation.
  • Closure style, material, liner or plug and tamper-evident requirement.
  • Contents, filling temperature, storage orientation and expected opening behaviour.

Approval checks
