Collection of plastic film packaging expands in England from 31 March 2027, but the exact pouch or film structure still determines whether a recycling claim is supportable.
The Simpler Recycling requirements apply to household and workplace collections in England. The new collection duty is important for flexible packaging, but it does not mean that every pouch, wrap or shrink film will be accepted or successfully recycled.
Current GOV.UK guidance lists important exclusions, including laminated foil formats such as some coffee and pet-food pouches, PVC packaging, and packaging labelled compostable or biodegradable. Buyers should therefore identify the exact material structure and intended disposal route rather than using “plastic film” as a universal recyclability claim.
